The place we’re talking about is Vineland, NJ. Vineland borders Deerfield Township, Millville, Salem County and Atlantic County. Landis Avenue is the main street in this city and it is a great destination for a family vacation. Don’t be a “chicken”

You might be interested in knowing that Vineland used to be the poultry capital of the United States. Much of the country’s chicken supply hailed from here but Vineland Poultry Laboratories has since been sold. It is now known as Lohman Animal Health and was started by a man named Arthur Goldhaft. Goldhaft created the fowl pox chicken vaccine and is credited with saving millions of chickens from dying. Vineland also has many registered historical sites that you might be interested in viewing. Some of these sites on the National Register of Historic Places include: Aubrey Louis Hanford House, Coney’s Tavern, First Baptist Church, Garrison Hall and the Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society Building. Also on this list are places like Theophilus French House, Myron Kimball House, Gittone Stadium, NJ Memorial Home and Judge Elias G. Daughty House. You’ll never guess who I met?

There have been many famous people who have come from Vineland, and maybe if you’re lucky, you might get the chance to see a celebrity on your trip. Nicholas Asselta, who is a member of the New Jersey Senate, hails from here. A member of the New Jersey General Assembly, Nelson Albano, also comes from Vineland. Other notable residents include Quaker reformer, Jeremiah Hacker and the founder of Vineland, Charles K. Landis. Alan Kotok and Jeret Schroeder have also lived in this city for various years of their lives. You never know who you might run into around here.

The “Strangest House in the World”

If you want to see a movie on your trip, check out The Delsea Drive-In, which is the only drive-in theater left in all of New Jersey. You can find this theater on Route 47, so make sure you check it out because it may not be around when you come back. Another interesting bit of history is the Palace of Depression which was built by a man named George Daynor. Daynor was an Alaskan gold miner who lost all of his money in the Wall Street Crash in 1929. The Palace was also known as the “Home of Junk” and the “Strangest House in the World”. Unfortunately, it was destroyed in 1969, but its memory will live on forever. This is not all that Vineland has to offer either, New Jersey car rental vacationers.
